Light Frost

the darkest winter

vines don't shoot up
it's the winter soltice

the darkest winter night

everything is still
the lake's water is frozen
the slender moon pale against the dark blanket

stars sprinkled across the sky
the tinest light from the moon
the stars add the slightest movement of the world

the darkest winter
the wind blows cold above the chimmney tops
no one is awake

the darkest mist
envelops the scenery

the darkest frost
but the moon shines on it

the lightest frost
winter is ending
